Children’s Hope Scale

The Children's Hope Scale is a 6-item measure that captures children's perceptions about their problem solving and goal seeking capabilities. The measure includes two sub-scales: 1) Agency, the ability to take action to reach goals, and 2) Pathways, the ability to reach goals under normal conditions, or despite obstacles.

Agency
1. I think I am doing pretty well.

Pathways
4. I can think of many ways to get the things in life that are most important to me.
5. When I have a problem, I can come up with lots of ways to solve them.
6. Even when others want to quit, I know that I can find ways to solve the problem.

Scoring Procedures

The average of the 6 items is calculated for the total scale score. Higher scores reflect higher levels of hope among children.
